A Spoonful of Sugar in Your Cup of Tea
Grant Project | 2024

“A Spoonful of Sugar in Your Cup of Tea: Reflections on Colonialism and Discrimination” serves as a platform for dialogue among creatives from diverse backgrounds. It brings together individuals who share common spaces—one in Indonesia and another in the United Kingdom. This collaboration between Pustaka Pias (IDN) and Small Fry Collective (UK) was initiated and co-published by Titis Embun Ayu and Delphi Suhariyanto, supported by the British Council’s Connections Through Culture Grant.

This book weaves together the voices and visions of 17 creatives who bravely confront and reflect on the enduring legacies of colonialism, racism, sexism, and nationalism, offering a thought-provoking and hopeful glimpse into a future where positive social change prevails through their stories and artistic expressions.
In this grant project, Titis also contributed a story titled "Coming of Age," a black and white drawing series.

Coming of Age reflects a subjective journey through adulthood filled with worry and self-doubt, where Titis often compared herself to others who seemed more superior, educated, or accepted.
Facing discrimination and gender stereotypes, she struggled with missed opportunities and often felt adrift. Inspired by a childhood experience, the story symbolizes her determination to overcome challenges, stay true to her values, and find her place in the world despite the biases she encounters.
This book is intended for mature audiences, ages 18 and above.
Limited copies are available at Grammars (IDN) & Small Fry Collective (UK).
